Prerequisite: Medical Terminology is now required to bill insurance companies and is used in the medical records department of hospitals. Effective October 1, 2014 the ICD-10-CM ([CD-10-PCS) coding systems are implemented. The ICD-10-CM includes many more codes and applies to more users than ICD-9-CM because it is designed to collect data on every type of healthcare encounter (e.g.,inpatient,outpatient,Hospice,home health care, and long-term care). ICD-10-CM also enhances accurate payment for services rendered and facilities evaluation of medical processes and outcome. Codes are more precise and serve as a useful tool in the area of classification of morbidity data for indexing. Patient records, reviewing quality of care, and compiling basic health statistics.
