Each week of this introductory arts course will spotlight a different artist, their contributions to the world of art, their defining techniques, and historical context behind their most popular works. Artists and styles explored in this course include Pablo Picasso and Cubism; Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet and Impressionism; as well as Jackson Pollack and Expressionism. All skill levels and artistic abilities are encouraged to participate in this course as there is no previous experience expected. Lessons are oriented towards the students’ creativity rather than technical abilities in exploring the artists' works. This course falls under the Communication, Critical Thinking and Personal and Social Insitutional Level Outcomes.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand the heritage of different artists and art movements and how they have effected society in the past and the present
- Describe, analyze, and interpret emotions and meanings in their own art and others’ art as well
- Gather, organize, and analyze different information from various sources and effectively express those ideas to be understood in new and creative ways
