Want to become a certified therapy dog handler, registered with a nationally recognized agency, bringing joy, smiles, comfort and happiness to people in different types of settings? In this 4-hour, adult, non-credit workshop, you will meet a certified therapy dog and handler that will show you how to pass the therapy dog handler written and behavioral tests at the least cost and quickest way. Participants receive a list of facilities using therapy dog services in your area, leading certifying agencies, dog training tips and resources, comprehensive explanation of the certifying process, and on-going post-class support. We combine group discussions, lecture, demonstrations and videos of therapy dog evaluations used by different registering agencies. A comprehensive therapy handler resource guide with over 80 valuable website links is included in the course fee. Instructor Richard Katz has provided therapy dog services in a variety of settings including UCLA Health System, United Airlines, dependency rehabilitation residents and disaster relief situations. He holds a BS degree from UCLA and a Masters of Arts degree from University of Minnesota. No previous experience required other tan an interest in becoming a therapy dog handler. Please do NOT bring your dog to class.
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will:
