This is a condensed version of an introduction to Algebra. The study of Algebra builds an understanding of quantitative relationships using algebraic terminology, expressions, equations, inequalities, and graphs. Students will interpret, simplify, evaluate, and/or solve linear equations and inequalities, systems of equations and inequalities, and simplify polynomials and exponential functions. They will also explore rational and radical expressions and equations. Additionally, students will use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions and equations. Finally, students will solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.
Recommended Skill Level or Previous Experience Expected:
Knowledge of order of operations (i.e. PEMDAS)
Mathematical operations using positive and negative integers
Set up and solve algebraic equations using one variable
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients.
Solve real life word and mathematical problems using multiple-step equations with positive and negative integers of any form (i.e. fractions and decimals,).
Use graphs to interpret value and meaning.
