This class encourages students to explore new foods, develop culinary skills, and build confidence in the kitchen. Students will enjoy a hands-on learning experience in Mt. SAC's Nutrition and Foods Laboratory Kitchen. Working in teams, students will prepare a variety of dishes while learning essential principles of food identification, safety and sanitation, and proper use of kitchen equipment.
This course falls under the Communication, Critical Thinking, Personal, Social, Civic, and Environmental Responsibility Institutional Level Outcomes (ILOs).
Upon completion students will:
Develop fundamental cooking techniques with every recipe
Learn essential food safety and sanitation practices
Demonstrate the ability to read a recipe, measure ingredients accurately, and follow the proper sequence for preparation
