The World of Physics: Bridges, Motors, and Matter will be exploring the physical attributes of forces, electricity and magnetism on the world we live in. Students will put up a fight against the forces of gravity as they design and engineer popsicle sticks bridges to withstand gravitational forces of concrete bricks. Students will hypothesize and test how much weight bridges can hold before gravity wins! Bridges that were constructed in the past have held more than 200 times their weight before subsiding! Students will study electricity and magnetism and how they can be combine into a working motor they build themselves. Students will explore density, buoyancy and heat using liquids, solid and gases. This introductory course requires no previous experience as all projects are designed for any skill level in physics. This course falls under the Communication, Critical Thinking and Personal and Social Institutional Level Outcomes.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Develop valuable critical thinking skills in which they will be able to gather, organize, and analyze data from various sources and apply that to their own projects
  • Comprehend the basic concepts Physics on the topics of forces, electricity and magnetism.
  • Engage in laboratory activities to test and hypothesize the elements of forces, electricity and magnetism
  • Learn basic terminology related to World of Physics (.i.g) gravity, forces, friction, law of gravity, weight distribution, opposite attraction of objects
